Hello. It is Shigematsu.

Please take care of your health during the hot days ahead!

When going out, it is effective to wear a hat for UV/UV and heat protection.

This time I would like to report on a few happy events!

It has been decided that Shigematsu Corporation will also cooperate with Tamayura Corporation in the production of uniforms for the 2025 Osaka/Kansai Expo! I also took the floor and got to meet the Expo mascot character Myaku Myaku as well! It is quite cute!

The material to be used for some of the uniforms for this year's Osaka Expo is called "reed" from the shores of Lake Biwa.

Reeds are an important plant for water quality conservation and carbon dioxide absorption in Lake Biwa. They serve an important ecosystem by purifying the water and providing a home for fish. In the past, reeds were used for shingled roofs and for reed screens. In recent years, however, the use of reeds has decreased, and when left unharvested, they get rotten in Lake Biwa, deteriorating the quality of the water. Reeds can be cut down and burned in the field, and new shoots will sprout the following year.

The reed material is woven into fabric, dyed, cut, sewn, and worn by Expo staff. Our company will be responsible for cutting and sewing. We are not sure what the design will be yet, but we hope that our patented "Coca Gel" technology will be used so that those who work under the hot sun will be able to do their work comfortably.

Reed, a material that hasn’t been used for ages, when gets rotten contributes to water pollution, is harvested and turned into fabrics and uniform. It is an SDGs initiative that takes account of the global environment.

Hats made of reed material will be available at our ATRENA/MAOZI stores in the spring of 2024!

On December 2, 2023, we are harvesting the reeds along the shores of Lake Biwa to be later processed for fabric to make uniforms for Expo! What kind of uniforms will they be? I am very much looking forward to it! We will report on the reed picking at a later date!
